Horton Commercial, reprinted in Topeka Plaindealer. "Lynching Dead Negroes." January 31, 1902.
"Had this lynching of a dead Negro occurred in Louisiana or Texas, it would be termed 'another Democratic outrage in the South' by Republican papers of Kansas. But as it occurred in Kansas they deem it wise to keep mum. If the young, dissolute hellions were bloodthirsty enough to practice lynching a dead Negro it only shows their inclination to lynch a live one, which is likely prevented through cowardice."
